In the beginning of 2022, the EU commission published an update to the Radio Equipment Directive (RED), which establishes a regulatory framework for placing radio enabled devices on the European market in the below articles, collectively referred to as Cybersecurity:
Articles 3.3(d) The device shall not harm the network or its functioning nor misuse network resources, thereby causing an unacceptable degradation of service.
Article 3.3(e) The device shall incorporate safeguards to ensure that the personal data and privacy of the user and the subscriber are protected.
Article 3.3(f) The radio equipment shall support certain features ensuring protection from fraud.
The updated framework will be mandatory from August 2024, and will impact all new designs.
